Today the International Olympic Committe chose Rio De Janeiro, Brasil as the site of the 2016 Summer Olympics. I had the pleasure of visiting Rio, and although it was many years ago (1980), the image of this gorgeous city and country have remained with me. The city has a wonderful vibrancy. It's people are colorful and beautiful. Time spent at the many sidewalk cafes enjoying local beverages and incredible cuisine will not disspoint.The scenery, is like no other. The shopping is out of this world, whether it's precious gems or local craft/art fairs.
As much as it would have been wonderful to have the Olympics in Chicago, I think the IOC got it right in choosing Rio and giving South America it's first ever Olympic venue.
